About Ella

Ella is the one-ear-up pup behind all of these adventures.

She came into our lives in March 2026, when we met her at a local farm store on March 7. We weren’t planning to adopt a dog—in fact, there was a few weeks of hoping that someone else would adopt her first and make the decision for us. Nobody did. On March 29, Ella came home with us. Apparently, she was just waiting for us to figure it out.

Ella is a Husky, Boxer, and Pit Bull mix with a whole lot of personality packed into about 45 pounds. She’s athletic, curious, goofy, incredibly sweet, and just independent enough to remind you that there is, in fact, Husky in there.

And then there are the ears.

One usually stands proudly at attention while the other does… whatever it wants. Sometimes they’re both up. Sometimes they’re both sideways. But her signature one-ear-up look stuck—and eventually gave this site its name.

Adventure Pup in Training

Ella loves doing things.

Hiking. Camping. Boating. Exploring parks. Playing at the dog park. Climbing things she wasn’t technically invited to climb. If there’s somewhere new to sniff, she’s interested.

She also takes canine conditioning classes, where she gets to jump, climb, balance, and generally demonstrate that she is considerably more athletic than her humans.

In the summer of 2026, we started hiking together more seriously. What began as a way to get outside and give a high-energy young dog something productive to do quickly turned into hiking challenges, new trails, Bark Ranger adventures, and a growing list of places we wanted to explore together.

That’s how One Ear Up Pup began.

This site is our adventure log—a place to keep track of the trails we’ve hiked, parks we’ve explored, challenges we’ve completed, things Ella has accomplished, and all the little adventures in between.

Not every adventure has to be epic. Sometimes it’s a beautiful trail through the woods. Sometimes it’s a few miles that seemed like a much better idea before we started. Sometimes it’s stopping at a castle because we happened to be nearby.

The important part is that we went.

And Ella is almost always ready to see where we’re going next.
